The COST Action TEATIME aims to improve biomedical research by bringing together European organizations developing automated home-cage monitoring technologies. They allow 24/7 data collection of experimental animals in their home cage, but assessing physiology as well as the full behavioural repertoire still presents many challenges. This Action combines experts in mouse behaviour, laboratory animal science and data science, to critically and transparently assess the potential of these emerging technologies. More information can be found in the Action’s Memorandum of Understanding available on the COST Action's webpage.
The following calls are open for application from 1 January to 8 August 2025.

Open Call for ITC Conference Grants
Are you a Researcher or Innovator from an Inclusiveness Target Country (ITC)? Do you want to attend an international conference to give an oral presentation on your work related to home-cage monitoring? TEATIME is offering ITC Conference Grants (of up to €2,000 each) to researchers and innovators to attend a high-level conference and present their work as an oral presentation. To be eligible you must be affiliated to a legal entity in a COST Inclusiveness Target Country (ITC) or Near Neighbour Country (NNC)*. The work presented must be relevant to the scope of the Action. The grant can provide a contribution to travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses, registration fees and overall effort. Note the ITC Conference Grants are now available to researchers/innovators of any age and are no longer restricted to Young Researchers under 40 years old. They now provide support for people accepted to give an oral presentation but not a poster. The conference can be before or after the closing date, but it must end before 12 September 2025.
*The researcher/innovator must be affiliated to a legal entity in a COST Inclusiveness Target Country (ITC) or region or Near Neighbour Country (NNC).
Open Call for Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs)
Do you want to visit a laboratory in another country to work with home-cage monitoring? Short-Term Scientific Missions (STSMs) are research visits aimed at supporting individual mobility, strengthening existing networks and fostering collaboration between COST Action Participants. They should specifically contribute to the scientific objectives of this COST Action, whilst at the same time allowing those taking part in the missions to learn new techniques or methods, gain access to specific facilities, instruments or data that are not available in their own institution/organisation. The TEATIME Action (www.cost-teatime.org) is offering up to 4 grants of up to €4,000 each for STSMs to be completed by 01 October 2024. The STSMs can range from 5 calendar dates to 3 months and are aimed to providing learning opportunities, preferably but not solely, to Young Researchers* through research exchange outside their home country. The grant will be paid on successful completion of the STSM, but an advance payment of up to 50% can be paid to researchers from an Inclusiveness Target Country (ITC).
Each STSM should focus on the science, development and informatics of home-cage monitoring and cover areas such as knowledge exchange, developing common methodologies, development of tools to analyse data, data annotation, integration, harmonisation and analysis. Some TEATIME Action member organisations are offering specific STSMs (detailed on our website), or you can contact any TEATIME member to design your own STSM. Mission period: 01 February 2025 to 12 September 2025
*The researcher must be affiliated to a legal entity in a COST Full/Cooperating Member, NNC or European RTD. We particularly encourage Young Researchers (under 40 years old) to apply.
Open Call for Young Researcher and Innovator (YRI) Conference Grants
Are you a Researcher or Innovator (under 40 years old)? Do you work in an area related to home-cage monitoring and want to attend an international conference to present your work? TEATIME is offering Young Researcher and Innovator (YRI) Conference Grants (of up to €2,000 each) for young researchers* and innovators to attend a high-level conference and present their work as a poster or oral presentation. The work presented must be relevant to the scope of the Action. The grant can provide a contribution to travel, accommodation and subsistence expenses, registration fees and other relevant costs such as printing of scientific poster. The conference can be before or after the closing date, but it must end before 12 September 2025.
*The researcher/innovator should be under 40 years old and be affiliated to a legal entity in a COST Full/Cooperating Member Country, NNC or European RTD.
